Battling Depression: Vanessa’s Story {Guest Post}

Hello and welcome back to my blog! I have another guest post to share with you today, which was written by Vanessa Williams. I really enjoyed the last guest post she wrote for my blog, so I’m happy to share this new one with you! She shares her experience with depression, as well as some encouragement for others who are also going through tough times. I pray that this post will be a blessing to you!

Battling Depression: Vanessa’s Story

Hey everyone! It’s Vanessa again! I hope everyone is doing great, and thank you all for the support on my last post about SVT. It means a lot!!

The topic of this post is about: If you are struggling emotionally.

I hope this post isn’t all over the place but I’m going to kinda talk about when I was dealing with depression and then I’m going to talk about what I am dealing with right now.

June 23, 2018… That was the worst day of my life. I had just gotten back from youth camp and my parents told me: “You can’t hang out with your 2 best friends anymore!” It felt like my heart had just dropped to the floor. I was crushed!! But before that I was also fighting depression, anger, and some other stuff. I had been praying for God to take away whatever was causing my depression, anger, and other things. When my parents said I couldn’t be friends with my 2 best friends anymore I knew I was about to go really deep into my depression – and I may not get out. But as the weeks went by I started to realize that my depression was gone and my anger was gone! I had NO sadness or anger!! I had been set free… Completely!

If you are fighting depression please don’t give up!! You can make it, and you will make it!! I know it’s dark right now but it can’t rain forever!!

I promise you when you get delivered from depression it will make the sun look so much brighter, and it will make you appreciate everything so much more!!

Just keep holding on!! Get with a friend or someone who will encourage you until the dark days are over. Please, please, please don’t give up!!!!

(If you want to know more about my story of coming out of depression check it out here)

I want to talk about what I have been dealing with recently.

Story time… So, my mom has been sick for the past 4 years. There are some days when she can’t even get out of bed but she does have her good days! If you are wondering what is wrong with her we don’t know. She has been to countless doctors and no one can help her. So, yeah…

November 19, 2018, my mom set me and my brother down and told us that my dad might have cancer. It took the breath out of me and I’m still processing it. It’s hard to hear that I could lose my dad, my hero, my everything at 15 years old. To be honest I really don’t know what to do at this point… My mom is sick and now my dad could be sick too. I’m at a loss for words… What has been going over in my mind is “How are the bills going to get payed?” because my mom hasn’t worked in 4 years or more, and my dad works 7 days a week and he won’t be able to do that anymore. So I have been looking for job to apply for this summer. Anyway…. I have been a little shaken up for the past few weeks.

But I know it’s all in God’s hands and He will come through!! If you are fighting cancer or you know someone who is, it’s not the end!!

I know it may seem hopeless now but you never know what God has in store for you or that person!

The things that have helped me cope with this is church and prayer. And if you don’t do either of those things that is okay. The other things I do is hang out with friends and listen to lots of music! Friends always make things better and they will always help you. Find your closest friend or someone you know who will help you and tell them about what you are dealing with and let them help you. We have friends for a reason. Just know you are never alone!! Music has gotten me through some of my darkest nights of depression and I’m sure it will help you get through this too!!

Here are my favorite songs currently:

I Choose to Believe by Phillips Craig & Dean

Working on Your Testimony by Jasmine Corcoran

Believe Again by Jasmine Corcoran

Please keep fighting no matter what you are dealing with physically or mentally! You can make it and you will see brighter days soon! Thank you all for reading and I’m praying for you!! Love ya’ll!!

Thank you Maggie, again!!

Vanessa, what a powerful story! I’m so glad you were free from your depression, something that so many need to be uplifted with. Through Christ, all things, even depression, can be made new ❤ We have hope in Him. Continued prayers for you and your family.
