Spotlight Saturday – Gracie from Through the Eyes of Gracie

Hey guys! I hope you’re having a beautiful weekend. x Today, I’m happy to share with you today a new interview that I recently wrote with one of the nicest bloggers I know! I hope you all enjoy!

Spotlight Saturday #19

Hey everyone! Thank you for coming by this Spotlight Saturday post. ❤ This week, I have gotten to interview a lovely blogger that I met last month. She writes about her life, such as photography, crafts, and her other hobbies! Please welcome Gracie from Through the Eyes of Gracie!

Hello everyone!! I am very excited to be a part of Maggie’s lovely blog!! This should be super fun!

Yes, definitely! I can’t wait to get started (: Let’s begin with this first question: Why did you decide to start your blog, Through the Eyes of Gracie?

Good question, haha. Well, over a year ago I found my friend Sophie’s blog and thought it would be fun to start a blog, and post crafts so I started Craft Time I posted occasionally, but not very often. Then this past August I started posting more often. But mostly photography and everyday life, so I decided to change my blog name a month or so ago, and that is where I am at now. 🙂

That’s awesome! I love it when friends and family inspire us to try something new. 🙂 Blogging is such a wonderful experience! My next question for you is, what are your favorite kinds of posts to write? And can you share some posts you shared recently that fall under those categories?

My favorite posts to write are DIY, photography, tags, and life…wow, haha. That is basically my blog summed up, haha. I just really enjoy blogging, no matter what it is. 🙂

Hehe same!! I love writing a variety of posts, as well. Those are all great posts that you’ve shared! Your ‘Thankful For Photography Challenge’ was a lot of fun to follow along with. ❤ Here’s my next question: what inspires and motives you to blog?

Thanks! I am not sure, I would probably have to say, my followers. I have many awesome followers, and they are all so encouraging in what I am blogging about! ❤

You’re welcome! And that’s wonderful 🙂 Followers are such an encouragement. ❤ Do you have any blogging advice you’d like to share with other bloggers?

Yes. It is kinda common advice but, DO NOT get discouraged if you don’t have a ton of followers, it will happen! Also …

” … even if you don’t have lots of followers, post like you do, because one day you will, and then you will already have great posts for them to read!”

That’s really good advice! It’s discouraging for most bloggers at first, but if you’re consistent in posting and reaching out to bloggers, they will come! ❤ Now that we know a good amount about your blog, tell us about yourself! What are some of your hobbies and interests? Why do you love them?

I am really into photography, blogging (obviously), violin, and crafting. I love photography because it helps you capture the beauty of God’s creations! I’ve kinda already told why I like blogging. I have wanted to play the violin for years, then a few years ago my Dad’s parents found a violin at GoodWill!! I was so excited, I did not get lesson until a year or so after that. I have been playing for about a year and a half now. 🙂 As you can probably tell, I am a very artist-y girl, I love being creative and expressing that!

Ooh those all sound amazing! What a wonderful way to begin playing the violin. I love surprise finds at thrift stores! It always makes my day! ❤ Aw I’m the same way! Being artistic and creative is so much fun. Here’s my next question for you: Why are you thankful for blogging?

I am thankful for blogging because it allows me to shows others DIYs, photography, and encourage other blogger and readers. But, most importantly, show the love of Jesus Christ.

Amen! Those are all beautiful reasons to enjoy blogging. Thank you so much for letting me interview you, Gracie! I really enjoyed this. 🙂 xx

Thank you. That was so much fun!!

Thank you so much for reading!

My Ultimate Christmas Music Playlist: A Collab

My Ultimate Christmas Music Playlist: A Collab

Hello everybody! I pray that you’re all having a good week. ❤ Today, I have a collaboration post to share with you! Gracie from Through the Eyes of Gracie decided to join me by sharing our Christmas music playlists! If you’d like to see some of her favorite holiday music, definitely go by her blog! Now let’s look at my current and past favorite Christmas songs ❤ Hope you enjoy!

Christmas Albums

  • Snowed InHanson. This 90’s boy band was my absolute favorite when I was between the ages of nine and ten!! I still think fondly of different songs by them, especially What Christmas Means to Me!
  • Once Upon A ChristmasKenny Rogers & Dolly Parton. My mom has been playing these songs during the holidays since I was little, so I absolutely love this CD! I enjoy listening to most of the songs, but the title song means the most to me – I highly recommend that you listen to Once Upon A Christmas.
  • Rudolph The Red-Nose ReindeerSoundtrack. You’re lying if you tell me you don’t like this soundtrack! lol Just kidding, but I do think you’re missing out if you don’t like Rudolph, or haven’t listened to this music. I gave the link to the soundtrack on YouTube instead of Amazon because I couldn’t find it. I love every single song in the movie, but the Overture is especially good.
  • Let It Snow – Beckah Shae. She’s one of my favorite Christian singers and cover artists (you have to check out her Christian song covers on YouTube!), and I’m excited about listening to this album this year. She has another Christmas album, as well, called Emmanuel! I can’t wait to listen to her rendition of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
  • Christmas Michael Buble. I really like his voice, but I haven’t listened to this CD much! I definitely need to this year. xx

Single Favorites

  • Born TonightJamie Grace. This song is SO beautiful! Its lyrics are fantastic; I keep listening to it on repeat.
  • Have Yourself A Merry Little ChristmasHannah Kerr. This is a new Christian singer I had the pleasure of meeting last year! She’s such a sweetheart, and she has a beautiful voice. I can’t stop listening to her jazz rendition of this traditional song!!
  • Baby, It’s Cold Outside Different Artists. I’m always humming this song in December; it’s such a sweet, soft song! Some of my favorite versions are by Zooey Deschanel and Matthias & Amanda Faye (see bulleted link).
  • All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey. It’s a classic, haha! I only like a few songs by her, and this is definitely one of them. It’s so fun and festive.
  • God With Us (You are Emmanuel) Leeland. It isn’t specifically a Christmas song, but it really feels like it to me!

Thank you so much for reading, guys! One of the main reasons I love this time of year is because the music is so wonderful. ❤ Let me know in the comments below:

Cultivating A Joyful Life | Spending Our Time Wisely

Cultivating A Joyful Life | Spending Our Time Wisely

My favorite time of day is the early evening. That’s when I get to spend time relaxing in my room after eating dinner with my family. Don’t get me wrong; I love eating dinner with everyone, but clean-up takes a while, since there are six people eating, haha! Anyway, once I’ve finished helping in the kitchen and I get to retreat to my room, I enjoy browsing my phone, reading a good book, or working on something on the laptop.

Sometimes, however, these evenings aren’t as productive or enjoyable as I’d like them to be.

It can be hard to relax when there are so many things I’d enjoy doing, to the point where I can’t decide on just one. Switching back and forth between these things works out sometimes, but more often than not, I get much less done than I would have liked, because I did a small amount … of everything.

Do you ever feel like you have too many things filling your free time?

Hey guys! I hope that you’re all doing well. 🙂 I have a post to share with you today that is very relevant to my life, haha! For this part of my Cultivating A Joyful Life series, I will be talking about, as the title suggests, spending our time wisely. We all have hobbies, interests, and activities we love doing, and when we attempt to do too many at once, it can be hard to accomplish what we set out to do.

I have found that dedicating large amounts of time to one thing at a time, instead of dividing an hour or so up among five activities, gets much more done and feels better than the variety. Sometimes, it depends on the day, or the activities themselves, but I’ve noticed how this occurs again and again in many situations for me. Basing what I focus on depending on my mood and inspiration usually helps me, unless I want to accomplish too many tasks at once.

How do you regularly spend your free time? Do you feel satisfied with what you’ve done afterward? Or do you feel like me – uncertain if how you’re spending your time is really worth it? I have so many things I love pursuing when I’m able to that I struggle to decide which ones I should do, for how long, and when. Let’s figure out how we can spend our free time wisely in today’s post! Before we go on to the rest of this post, however, I’d like to share how this topic, just like the rest in this series, deeply relates to the garden of our hearts.

To properly care for a garden, whether that’s a real or metaphorical one, you must evenly divide your attention among all of the plants. Some need more care than others, but as a whole, they all require sunlight, good soil, water, and enough individual space to flourish. If, at some point, there are so many plants that the caretaker struggles to evenly care for all the plantlife, it’s quite possible that some will get more than they need, and others will be left behind. Balancing our priorities is a very important aspect of our lives.

Cultivating A Joyful Life |
Spending Our Time Wisely

The funny thing about my hobbies and interests is that at any given time, I am extremely occupied, or very bored. This is because I either have one or two hobbies, or so many that I’ve lost count. I’m quite finicky with hobbies this way, to the point that I have too much time on my hands, or not enough. For the majority of 2017, I have had many pursuits, from language-learning to blogging, to piano-playing to story-writing, and learning to balance these things has taught me a lot.

If you are interested in figuring out how to prioritize more wisely like I am, check out the list below!

1. Write down two lists: one for your hobbies/interests, and another for things required of you. You could include all of the main things, or break them down into sub-categories. For example, if “blogging” was on your interests list, you could also add what that activity consists of, like “writing posts,” “reading posts,” “browsing Reader,” etc.

2. Number the hobbies/interests list by how much those things mean to you right now. I really need to make a list like this, too. Whether you number them in order of your enjoyment of those activities, or by how important they are in the grand scheme of things (i.e. learning Spanish or playing the piano will last longer than a blog post I could work on, lol), it’s totally up to you. 🙂

3. Make sure that you’re completing the things on your important list before moving on to what’s on your interest list. I live by the saying “work before play,” except for in the case of simply needing a mental break. I feel much more relaxed and apt to participate in my favorite activities after I have completed all of the things required of me. At this time in my life, that’s usually schoolwork, helping around the house, and being with my family. While I wouldn’t say that the latter one is ‘required’ of me, it is definitely something essential in my life. 🙂

4. Consider dropping the hobbies that are last to be numbered. There may be a reason they’re not high on your list of favorite things to do. If this is the case, maybe you aren’t as interested in it as you thought you were, or you could simply need a break. Definitely take that into consideration!

5. Work your free time around these lists. I wouldn’t advise practicing this strictly, as that could put unneeded pressure on yourself to spend your time one certain way. However, I know that with writing and numbering my hobbies and interests, and by choosing which I’d prefer to do in what order any given day, it would give me much more peace of mind. It is very satisfying when you know you’re getting things that you love to do done!

Thank you so much for reading, guys! This post has really helped me. I’m working on balancing what hobbies I participate in and when at this time in my life, and this addition to Cultivating A Joyful Life is a reflection of that. I hope you enjoyed it!

Missions Monday – Part Six | Being Prepared For Missions

Missions Monday – Part Six | Being Prepared For Missions

Hello everyone! I hope that you’re doing well. 🙂 ❤ I have Part Six of my Missions Monday series to share with you today! Last week, I shared what it’s like to trust in the Lord when it comes to a future in missions, and on this post, I’ll cover being prepared for missions.

Waiting on the Lord’s timing with Guatemala through this whole year has taught me much, and I am happy to share some of my tips with you today.

I hope you enjoy!

Tips For Spiritually / Emotionally
Preparing For Missions

At the moment, I can’t give any tips on preparing for mission trips in a literal sense, as I haven’t been on one yet. However, I did find an awesome website a while ago that has articles on this topic, if that’s what you’re interested in! Click here to check that out. 🙂

Today, I will be talking about the preparation of mind and spirit when it comes to missions. I’m drawing from my own experience, as well as articles I’ve read on the subject.

My first tip for you is to pray about missions. Whether the Lord has already placed this calling on your heart, or you think you’d like to serve Him on the mission field one day, bring it before Him and leaving it in His hands is an important and crucial part of preparing. If I wasn’t able to talk to Him about different things I’m considering or wondering about with Guatemala, I don’t know what I’d do. Knowing He’s always there to listen is a beautiful blessing. 🙂 ❤

My second tip is to read the Bible. Many people in the Bible were on a very similar mission: to go out into the world and tell others about Him. It might have been within their own town, or they were writing to people miles and miles away. Whatever the Lord has placed on your heart, I know how much of an encouragement it is to me to read about biblical figures who went through much the same thing I am right now: waiting in faith and following His plan for my life.

My third tip is to expect the unexpected. I have gotten into a mindset a few times of viewing the mission trip I will one day go on as being a fully amazing experience. While I don’t doubt this to be true, this perfect vision is unrealistic, as people aren’t perfect, and conditions aren’t always just right, and situations always turn out differently than we expect them to. Viewing future trips as a beautiful way to serve the Lord and the opportunity to be a blessing to others is important to keep in mind. Expect the unexpected.

My last tip is to trust that the Lord will get you there. If missions are on your heart, leaving that desire in His hands is truly the best thing you can do. It has helped me immensely to have faith that He will work everything out, and in the meantime, I am happily trusting Him and learning Spanish while I wait. ❤ ❤ ❤

Thank you so much for reading! I hope and pray that these tips could be an encouragement to you. (:

December Photography Challenge || Week One

December Photography Challenge || Week One

Hey guys! I hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday. ❤ I am very happy to share with you the first photography challenge I’ve ever participated in! My lovely blogging friend, Gracie, started this and invited all of her followers to join in. Go check out the photos she’s shared so far here!

I’ve decided to post my photos from every day each Sunday in December, as that will make it much easier for me to participate. Since there’s a photo prompt for every day of December, I’ve taken two photos so far. Let’s see what they are!

Day 1 – Something Red

Our family’s tree skirt! I really like this one. We got it last year, I think, and it’s so pretty and festive. Very picture-worthy! (And I loved finding a way to make all the lines straight; I love symmetry in photos.)

Day 2 – A Wreath

I’m slightly embarrassed to say that this is the only Christmas wreath we have in our house right now, hahaha! I do like it – it’s a craft I made when I was five – but it’s pretty minuscule when juxtaposed to gorgeous nature-y wreaths made of real pine boughs and poinsettias. lol I’ll proudly continue to hang this on my bedroom door, though – it makes me happy (:

Thank you for reading, guys! I’m excited to get to share more photos next weekend. Until next time, I hope you all have a beautiful new week!

7 Tips For Staying Organized With Blogging

7 Tips For Staying Organized With Blogging

Hey guys, and happy December! I hope that the new month has gotten off to a great start for you. 🙂 ❤ I have a fun blogging tips post to share with you today! Over the months that I’ve been blogging on Dreaming of Guatemala, I have learned much in the ways of blog schedules and consistent posting. It has been a rocky journey, with highs and lows of inspiration, but that is to be expected, and as a whole, I’ve appreciated every minute of it.

This journey is what inspired today’s post, where I will be sharing with you my 7 tips for staying organized with blogging! These can all be followed loosely and are simply meant to help you stay focused on finding your post style and sticking to it. (: Let’s check out these tips!

7 Tips For Staying Organized With Blogging

1. Decide on what topics to cover.

Having at least three topics you will enjoy focusing on will help you when thinking of posts to write! Simply knowing the overall focus of your blog (i.e. mine is Christian lifestyle) is too broad. Break it down a bit – make a list, if you wish. Allow it to be flexible. You could browse post ideas online (I have a good amount on my blogging board on Pinterest!).

As I’ve been blogging, I have tried out topics, switched them around, gotten rid of them altogether, come back from time to time – blogging about what you’re passionate about and inspired by is important. Don’t be afraid to switch this up from time to time!

2. Develop a basic posting schedule.

This could be as simple as knowing which days of the week you want to put up a post! If you’d like to go a bit further, you could decide what focus each day will have, as well. For example, on Mondays and Wednesdays, I like to share inspirational posts, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I share personal posts – when I have them to share. Having this consistency on your site helps your readers stay interested, and it keeps you inspired.

3. Keep track of all post ideas.

Every blogger has their own style with this. For me, I like to write down potential titles, lists that I’ll expound on later, and also small descriptions of where I want the posts to go. Experiment and find what works best for you! The way to determine this is see how well these methods help recall to mind what you wish to write later. For example, if recording title ideas inspires you more than descriptions do, only write down titles.

4. Buy, print, or make a blogging calendar.

This helped me immensely when I bought one this past summer! Buying one is not necessary, however; you could print one for each month, or draw a diagram of your own – whatever works for you and your wallet. I love my planner, which is a nice size (18 months) and has a pretty pineapple design on the cover, but I have also used printable calendars, and I love those, too.

5. Allow for changes of plan.

Writing in your planner with a pencil is an essential!!! It isn’t half as pretty as colored pens or markers, but I don’t mind, because then I don’t have to use Wite-Out. When I write in what I want to post in the next week or two, there always ends up being at least one post that is removed or moved somewhere else. It can be discouraging, as it makes one feel scattered and unorganized, but it really isn’t like that at all. Deciding what posts will be good for certain days is important – even if you have to erase and re-write three times.

6. Don’t feel bad for moving posts around.

This goes along with my last tip. The main reason I have had to move posts around is because I’ve been working on developing a weekly post schedule for the past couple of months, and I’m finally at a place now where I can do so. Before that, I was experimenting with posting different posts on different days. Don’t come down on yourself for inconsistency; it’s all part of finding what works best for you!

7. Schedule posts ahead of time.

The WordPress feature of being able to schedule posts for a later date and time has saved me so many times. I deeply appreciate being able to do this in the event that I forget I’m posting one morning, and it’s also a great way to plan ahead. (Not too far, though; you might forget it has been scheduled!) Once you have a post completely written and you know what date you want it to go up, scheduling is very easy and efficient. I definitely recommend it.

Late Fall Vibes | Thoughtful Friday

Late Fall Vibes | Thoughtful Friday

Hey guys ❤ I hope you’ve all had a beautiful day! Rarely do I post this late in the day, haha, but I’ve been thinking, and I knew it would be nice to have a place to share my thoughts.

How have you guys been on this fine Friday? Happy December 1st, by the way! I’m so happy it’s this time of year again. I love Christmas shopping, holiday music and cheer, and just the overall mood of the month. It’s going to be amazing!

Before I can fully move on to the month ahead, however, I have some things I’d like to share. Nothing bad or eventful has occurred; I’d just appreciate being able to write about what’s been on my heart.

I hope you like the pictures I’ve included! They were all taken over this past week. We’ve been spending more time outside recently not just because of the great weather, but also because Elizabeth has been old enough to begin exploring the outdoors. ❤

Thoughtful Friday |
My Current Thoughts

First, I’m learning to balance blogging with the rest of my life. For a long time, I have been incapable of giving the correct amount of time to blogging. I love writing posts, but I need to figure out the best times to do so. Deciding what to write and when to post them is something I’m still experimenting with. I enjoy blog reading, but it would make me much happier if I had certain times I did it. Reading a lot at once instead of a post here and there would help me divide my time between blogs.

(To the bloggers whose blogs I haven’t commented on in so long – I am truly sorry! I haven’t forgotten about you; I’ll be back in your notifications soon.)

Two, my family and I have been adjusting to my mom being on bed rest. Life is pretty normal again, but our mom is taking it easy as much as she can, so I’m helping out with more housework and some babysitting of Elizabeth. There have been emotional highs and lows for us recently (especially me), but we’re all slowly working together, and life is becoming happier again.

Third, I am so excited for the new year. Does anyone else have any amazing ideas in mind for 2018? I can’t wait to pursue my hobbies and interests more, hopefully get my first job, and meet my new baby sister! And there’s no telling where my blogging ventures will take me! ❤

Thank you so much for reading! I hope that you all have a beautiful month. ❤ Please let me know in the comments below:
