Your Summer Memories | Do You Remember? by Gracie

Hi there, everyone! Welcome to Part One of the Summer Memories series.

At the beginning of this month, I asked you guys to send me your favorite summer memories. As I expressed in the post, those memories could be about whatever stands out most to you when you think of summer – and the range of stories that all of you sent me is so cool! Each one is completely unique, and while I’d like to tell you more about each one, you’ll have to see for yourself over the next week or so what they wrote. ❀

I will be sharing each story in the order that they were sent to me – just to make that clear!

For today’s story, we have ‘Do You Remember?’ by the lovely Gracie over at Gracie Chick’s Blog. The epic thing about what she wrote is that it is basically her experience with summer as a whole – and it is written in prose! It is so reminiscent, sweet, and at some points bittersweet, too. I added the pictures, but her story is just like she sent it to me:) I hope you guys enjoy. ❀

Do You Remember?

Dear Summer,

You know I’m expecting you soon, don’t you? I’ve been counting on my fingers and the months tell me that it’s your turn now. Fiery Autumn has been and gone, so has distant Winter and sweet, sweet Spring. Oh Summer, how I look forward to your return.

I often sit on the window seat and curl my fingers round a mug of milky tea. It’ll be lemonade when you arrive, won’t it? Anyway, it’s hard not to remember all those times together, my thoughts are always there, with you.

I wish I could’ve bottled your scent and kept it to last the whole year through. The taste of sunshine, hints of warm rain, traces of woodsmoke, drifting on the breeze. I wish I’d been able to stop the sun from setting on that day that we both knew was the end.

I didn’t want to say goodbye.

The tears rolled, cold, down my tanned cheeks. One for each flower petal that drooped and fluttered silently to the ground.

Do you remember the campfire songs and roaring flames? The burnt marshmallows. Do you remember all the sleepovers when we did everything but sleep? Do you remember all the dramas? The moments where it felt like the world was going to end? In reality they were so meaningless, but we weren’t a part of reality.

In reality, we created our own imperfect fantasy.

Do you remember the bonds we formed? The friendships that drew closer, and closer? The band of brothers and sisters that would do anything for each other? Do you remember the secrets we shared and the stories we told? Were they true? I honestly can’t remember.

I miss you, Summer. But you’re coming soon and we must make plans. I’ll meet you at the meadow where the sun’s rays touch the trees, splashing them like brushes dipped in golden paint. I’ll meet you in the teepee where my friends and I hang out, playing guitar and drinking elderflower cordial.

I’ll meet you in my doorway, I’ll watch out the window and smile as you run up the path, arms open wide.

Goodbye and see you soon….

All the best from your loving friend,

Gracie
