Blogging Challenge – Day 9: Favorite Types of Food and Recipes

Warning: Don’t read this post if you’re hungry. I guarantee that today’s prompt will make your stomach grumble even louder than it already is.

I love food. Like, a lot. What human doesn’t? Haha! Although, my tastes are a bit different than most, I should admit; I prefer my cuisine to be … I wouldn’t say bland (although my mom might, haha), but moreso simple. I don’t like many strong flavors, and most things fancy or with special taste/texture (picture 12-year-old me nearly choking on Chicken Cordon Bleu at my aunt’s rehearsal dinner), those things aren’t for me. My daily palette is quite boring, very lacking in extravagant flavor and … most everything, really. Care to hear about my favorite foods now? No? I’m sorry I’ve bored you already. Hahaha!

You can read about what this challenge is here. And make sure to check out Cheila’s and Angela’s posts for today, too – we’re all doing the challenge together!

Favorite Types of Food

  • Cheese. I love cheese. I like it as the topping on different dishes, the filling for different dishes, and whole meals focused on it for other dishes! My favorite kinds are Muenster, Monterey Jack, Colby, and Cheddar, but I’m always up for trying other types, too. lol
  • Bread. And by bread, I mean sub rolls, croissants, crescent rolls, biscuits, breadsticks, stuff like that – not sandwich bread. Although I do love that as the base for turkey sandwiches! If I’m ever over to your house and you’ve made some type of bread to go with the main dish, I’ll snag two or three – maybe more – of the bread and spend most of the meal eating it.
  • Pizza. This kind of goes along with cheese, but not quite! I don’t know what I’d do without pepperoni pizza – and other types of pizza. My favorite pizza place (Stevi B’s) has a specialty type that they serve called ‘chicken fajita.’ Ohhhh, man! ❀
  • Crackers. Specifically, Townhouse’s Parmesan Pretzel Crackers – I mean, I love other crackers alright, but there’s something so addictive, and salty and crunchy about these particular ones … I’m serious, if allowed to eat out of the box, I will gladly eat the entire bag. I think a serving is supposed to be like 6 crackers. How about no.
  • Pretzels. This might be considered a type of bread (sourdough), but I think of it as a category all its own! I absolutely love soft pretzels from practically anywhere, and pretzel crackers are alright, but what I really like are the soft ones.
  • Mexican food. Eh, kind of, anyway – like my mom said, I like the American versions of Mexican foods, hahaha! Mainly nachos, tacos (no tomatoes), Mexican rice, and tortilla chips with awesome Newman’s Own salsa. (Although I’ve recently been cutting back on my spicy food consumption, and my favorite salsa went with it!)
  • Chinese food. At this point in my life, I have not expanded my love for Chinese dishes that much – I enjoy a few, but am timid about trying anything new, lol. But I do enjoy Mongolian chicken, spring rolls, sweet-and-sour chicken, orange chicken, and sometimes chicken and broccoli, too. This brings me to my next favorite food:
  • Chicken! Goodness, I’m not sure why I didn’t list this sooner. Fun fact: When I was little, the only – yes, only – thing I would order from restaurants was chicken nuggets/tenders and fries. Sad fact: I still do that now. Not because there aren’t other choices. Because I love chicken and fries. Speaking of which!!! This next food I practically LIVE off of:
  • Fries!!! I am more than obsessed with fries; it is only on rare occasion that I meet a fry I don’t like. I don’t think I have an addiction, or anything, but I do gobble my serving down every time we go out to eat, and all of my favorite homemade meals come with a side of fries. Haha. I can’t help it!
  • Desserts/Candy/Sweets/Treats. This one goes without saying. I love anything sweet and sugary – probably 95%, anyway! Some of my favorites recently have been Scandinavian Swimmers from Trader Joe’s (they’re like Swedish Fish!), my raspberry streusel bars, caramel popcorn from Trader Joe’s, Cadbury eggs and white chocolate Reese’s eggs (from Easter last month!), and anything else we have around the house that’s delicious and sweet, lol.

I have many favorite dishes, so I will give you a quick list of a few favorites from my mom’s blog, as well as my own!

That’s it for today’s post! Thanks for coming by. Are you hungry yet? I sure am!

What are YOUR favorite foods?

  1. I love homemade bread. I make it during the winter months. Pasta! YAY! I like a good salad. I make my own ranch dressing. Yummy. I love potatoes! A cook can do so much with potatoes! I do like spicy foods, bring on the jalapeΓ±o! πŸ™‚ Of course, most anything chocolate, especially dark chocolate. I don’t eat any meat at all.

  2. We may actually be spirit animals. I love, love, love cheese; I could never give it up. I could give up a number of things but that certainly isn’t one of them. And bread is just to die for. I mean honestly, how do people live without cheese and bread?!?!

  3. I love cheese too! I eat pizza almost every week and French fries are just soooo good! Especially if they’re from Burger King. But my love is curry. I can eat it almost every day and same for macaroni pie. I’m suddenly hungry. I am going to eat now.

  4. Well, it seems we love all the same foods! I’ve never met any bread or cheese I didn’t like! And biscuits, I am not sure if they are considered bread but I have a recipe for garlic cheddar biscuits and everyone wants me to make them any time there is a get together. They are the simplest things but everyone thinks they are hard so they want me to make them. My favourite chinese is sesame chicken, mmmm now I want so. Crackers are the best. I love saltines and buy the oyster and soup crackers so I can eat them without leaving crumbs all over the place. I am so happy I ate before hopping on wordpress or I’d be raiding the kitchen right about now. πŸ™‚

    1. Oooh, garlic cheddar biscuits! Those sound like my favorite appetizer from Red Lobster. I love those so much!! I like sesame chicken alright, but the kind my mom makes is a bit too spicy for me, lol. I made the mistake of responding to comments talking all about delicious food before eating – I’m glad I hadn’t eaten lunch yet, hahaha!

  5. Haha! I can understand the bread and crackers. I recently fell in love with pita chips. I’ve been trying to eat healthier, and found parmesan pita chips. Yum! I love Chinese food, though I’m not big on fish/sushi. My brother mainly eats chicken, as does my husband. So when I saw your dishes, I was like, “Okay, so she likes chicken.” And lo behold, what was underneath Chinese food haha :). Have a great day!!!

    1. Ooh, pita chips! That sounds good. Haha no, I’m not a big fan of the sushi side to Chinese dishes, either πŸ™‚ That’s cool, I didn’t know you were married. I do love chicken!! Hope you’re having a great day, too. xx

      1. Yeah, my husband and I are high school sweet hearts. We dated when he was 15 and I was 16. I’ll be turning 28 this year and he 27. We’ve been together for almost 12 years, and we will be celebrating our fourth year of marriage. πŸ™‚ Thank you! My day has been busy writing blog posts to get ahead for the week and next week.

  6. Bread and potatoes are so versatile and come in so many delicious forms!!! I also absolutely love cheese and sweets. There’s just so much good food out there!! Also I saw a recipe for homemade donut holes, so I’m going to go bookmark it for future use XD

    1. I agree! Yes, I’m always finding new favorite foods (usually a new cheese/potato dish haha). That’s awesome! I made my own a while back, and the recipe was pretty easy to follow πŸ™‚

  7. We have very similar food preferences. I don’t like strong flavors and don’t try anything new at a restaurant. I’m afraid I won’t like it and then I will have ruined a meal. Some people might say I like my food bland lol

    1. I’m the exact same way – scared of ruining my meal! Although I’m much more open to trying new things at buffets πŸ™‚ Haha I’m sure most of what I eat would be considered bland – but I don’t mind that at all! It’s what I enjoy.
