Making the Change ~ Monthly Wrap-Up (May-June 2017)

Making the Change ~ Monthly Wrap-Up (May-June 2017)

Hi, guys 🙂 I hope you’re all having a great day so far.

For a while now, I have been writing the posts in this series set up as weekly recaps, in order to summarize how my week went, and how I felt over the course of each day. Now, however, I’m going to turn Making the Change into a monthly wrap-up, as you probably already saw in the title, hehe. 💕 I may very well do a week recap post again at some point, but for now, it will be a once-a-month type of post. 🙂

This month’s will be broken up into two sections; one for the month that has ended, and another for the month that is coming up! For the past month part, I’m going to reflect on the improvements I made, as well as what I could have done better on. For the upcoming month, I will list what I’d like to focus on improving, the quotes and Bible verses that inspire me for the weeks ahead, and any other thoughts that I have on it.

For anyone new following along, or if you simply need a refresher, you can visit the first post in this series, where I explain what it is all about. Basically, it’s a reminder for me to focus on spreading more kindness in my life as I overcome anger. I have definitely improved since I started making the change back in April … but I know that I still have a ways to go. The encouragement from my family, you guys, and the Lord is what has kept me going – I am so thankful for all of you!

Let’s jump right into this. ❤

Making the Change ~ Monthly Wrap-Up (May-June 2017)

The Past Month: May 2017

Improvements: I worked on finding different activities to do with my 5-year-old brother, Samuel, things that we could both have fun doing together. I reached out to my 13-year-old brother, Joshua, by trying new games with him that he primarily enjoyed more than I did. I was more conscious of how I look and sound when I respond to situations I’m not happy with, and I did my best to be more gentle.

Next Time: I need to go through more with playing pretend with Samuel. I also ended up sounding harsher than I would’ve liked many times, in different situations. I need to pay further attention to how I sound; I need to be gentle and understanding. Instead of responding instantly when I’m upset about something, I need to think through what I’m about to say … I don’t want to have many more of these regrets.

The Upcoming Month: June 2017

Focuses:

  • Gentleness. In how I sound, act, and think. ❤
  • Forgiveness. Both things unintentional and intentional, for if I desire to be forgiven, I need to do the same for others (Mark 11:25).
  • Patience. This is definitely one that I need improving on. Both with myself, as well as my interactions with others, I need to learn to slow down. It kind of goes along with patience, but is slightly different. I know than I can (and will!) learn to slow down. ❤
  • Grace. This trait has been defined as “simple elegance or refinement of movement.” I need help in this area like I need air to breathe hahaha
  • Self-Control. I will feel upset sometimes … but I do not have to act on those negative feelings.

Quotes and Bible Verses to Inspire:

  • “Do everything with so much love in your heart that you would never want to do it any other way.”
  • “We rise by lifting others.”
  • “Do justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly.” ~ [derived from] Micah 6:8
  • “Patience with family is love, patience with others is respect, patience with self is confidence and patience with God is faith.”
  • Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.” ~ Philippians 2:3-4 NIV
  • “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.” ~ Proverbs 10:12 ESV
  • “Everything that God allows to come our way is always with a purpose. He uses even the greatest error and deepest pain to mold us into a better person.”
  • “Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people.”
  • If the words you spoke appeared on your skin, would you still be beautiful?”

“If you can’t be kind, be quiet.”

“See the light in others,
and treat them as if that is all you see.”

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” ~ 1 Peter 4:8-9

Blogging Challenge – Day 31: The Finale

Blogging Challenge – Day 31: The Finale

Ahh I can’t believe this blogging challenge has come to an end, guys! 😭

I had so much fun doing it; I met so many new people, and I got to learn more about all of you through it, too! I will definitely do another one in the future … I’m thinking about maybe a fall challenge. I love talking about all things fall! 😍🍂🍁

So, I wanted the last day of my posting about the challenge to be a little finale post, not the last, self-promotional prompt it had me do yesterday, lol. I’m going to talk about a few things relating to this challenge. If you’re interested, keep on reading!

Also, just so you guys know, I’m going to be off WordPress most of the day, as I have some different things I will be working on. I’ll do my best to respond to comments today, but it might be tomorrow. 💕

Enjoy!!

The May Blogging Challenge

Why I Loved This Challenge:

  • It taught me soooo much more about myself, as well as all the bloggers who participated in the comments! Isn’t it crazy how we can learn more about ourselves when prompted to do so? When we list what makes us happy, or think through our blogging goals, or what our favorite foods are … you’d think I’d already know that about myself, but it was cool to see it all written down!
  • It taught me to do a better job with blog post planning. Hahaha, I will admit that this was the hard way to learn this lesson, but it needed to be done. Don’t wait ’til the last minute to work on posts; have things ready well beforehand, when you can. However, don’t pressure yourself to write more posts than you’re capable of. #BlogComfortably
  • It gave me the chance to blog every day for a whole month! This was the best part of all. I met so many new people, got to put up a lot of awesome content, and was able to blog for 30 consecutive days!! What!! It was awesome.

A Message to My Fellow Challenge Buddies:

Cheila and Angela both decided to do this challenge right along with me, which was such an exciting experience! I had no idea that anyone else would want to join me, so it was such a nice surprise. Girls, I loved reading your interpretations of the prompts, as well as getting to learn more about you! If we ever get the chance to do something like this again, I would absolutely love to. ❤

If you guys haven’t visited their blogs before, please do!! They both blog daily, and they have a whole variety of different posts across their blogs. 🙂

My Top 5 Favorite Prompts from The Challenge:

Thank you sooo much for following along on this challenge! It was a great experience. ❤

Blogging Challenge – Day 30: Where Else You Can Find Me Online

Blogging Challenge – Day 30: Where Else You Can Find Me Online

For the very last prompt of this challenge (I’m doing the finale tomorrow, as May has 31 days, not thirty haha), I am going to give you guys links to where else you can find me online. I’m not in very many places online anymore, haha, at least not actively, but this can still be a helpful resource for anyone who’d like to follow me elsewhere!

You can read about what this challenge is here. And make sure to check out Cheila’s and Angela’s posts for today, too – we’re all doing the challenge together!

Where Else You Can Find Me Online

YouTube. I mainly watch others’ videos on this account lol, but I also have some photo editing tutorials up, as well as a few gaming videos that I did with my brother, Joshua!

Twitter. I’ve had this account for maybe a year and a half, but I only just got back to posting (erm, excuse me – tweeting) on it! I like linking to [most of] my recent posts shortly after publishing them, as well as finding GIFs that go along with how I’m feeling currently, haha!

Pinterest. I’ve had various accounts on this awesome website/app over the years. On my current account, I love pinning new recipes to try, inspirational quotes, funny memes/jokes/roasts, missionary quotes/photos, and beautiful photography. #dreamin

I can be reached through all three of these platforms, as well as right here on my blog! I love meeting new people, and I’m always up for following back on all websites. Another way you can contact me is on my Contact page (haha), or directly through my email: dreamingofguatemala@yahoo.com !

Thanks for reading, guys!

Blogging Challenge – Day 29: My Favorite Movies

Blogging Challenge – Day 29: My Favorite Movies

Hi, guys! I hope you’re all having a wonderful  Memorial Day weekend, and that your week has gotten off to a great start. 🙂

For the last and final time, I’m changing up the day’s prompt. That is because I’m combining the last two of the challenge (‘my favorite social media sites’ and ‘where else you can find me online’) into the last prompt for the challenge, which I’ll be posting tomorrow.

For today, I’ll be talking about my favorite movies!

You can read about what this challenge is here. And make sure to check out Cheila’s and Angela’s posts for today, too – we’re all doing the challenge together!

My Favorite Movies

First of all, you guys should know that I absolutely love comedy movies!! Rom coms, especially. I’m not one for anything else, really; fantasy/paranormal usually frightens me too much lol, romances are too emotional, true stories are a bit too sentimental for me … ahaha I’ll stop here before I offend someone. There are awesome movies that I’ve seen from all sorts of different movie genres, and there’s not a thing wrong with the movies I didn’t like; they just honestly weren’t for me!

Below, I’ll share with you some of my all-time, the-first-to-come-to-mind favorite movies. Make sure to let me know if you love any of these, too!

Waking Ned Devine. It’s a delightful story about a small village in Ireland called Tullymoore (ah or however it’s spelled) where one of the residents win the lottery … but the main characters can’t figure out who. I love the whole cast (save for the villain character haha), the setting, the plot, the humor … there is very little that I dislike about this movie! I’ve watched it so many times; I really don’t know what I’d do without it.

27 Dresses. It’s about a wedding planner who would love to have a wedding of her own one day … but with a man that is already taken. When she has to plan this long-time crush’s wedding, and the bride-to-be is someone she never would have expected, things become chaotic very quickly! I love the whole cast in this movie, the humor is great, and the plot is definitely gripping. ❤ I love getting to see Katherine Heigl and James Marsden in these roles!

Mad Money. When three woman who have it badly off one way or another find themselves working at the same bank, and all three dealing with retired money going to the shredder … they all get a brilliant (albeit illegal and felonious) idea into their heads. Hahaha the focus of this movie has such awful morals, but it is absolutely hilarious! I love Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, and Katie Holmes in these roles.

The Holiday. When two heartbroken women decide to trade houses for the Christmas holiday, they end up each falling for someone while there … two different people that have always been in the lives of those two women. I love the settings, the plot, the music, the wardrobe (I’m serious. while watching, just pay attention to what everyone’s wearing. So cozy!), and the two relationships that come about over the course of the movie. They’re sooo sweet and I’ve already loved Kate Winslet and Jack Black from other movies, but this was actually the first time I’ve seen Jude Law and Cameron Diaz in a film. I ended up loving both of them, though!

Clue. Oh my goodness, this movie has me laughing the entire time I’m watching it. The cast is brilliant, the humor is nonstop, and people are dying this way and that. What’s not to like? ;D If you know how to play the classic board game, Clue, then you’ll know what’s going on in this movie, and you’ll appreciate all the references. Tim Curry playing Wadsworth, the butler, is my favorite part of the whole movie.

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. I couldn’t list my favorite movies and not mention Harry Potter somewhere! This is my favorite Potter film because, for some reason, it is the most intriguing to me. I love the additions to the cast, and the focus on finding whoever’s after Harry … or not … haha I’m trying not to give away anything! I also love all the Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons that Professor Lupin teaches; those scenes are fantastic!

~~~~
Thanks so much for reading, everyone! Do we have any favorites in common? And how about you?
What are YOUR favorite movies?
I’ll see you guys for this challenge again tomorrow, then lastly on Wednesday for the grand finale!
We Can Be The Change
We Can Be The Change
There have been a lot of very negative things going on in the world recently … but I’ve realized what the best step for all of us to take is. There is something we can all be doing to make this world a better place, even if that difference is significantly small. By taking on one small random act of kindness at a time, we can do so much in the ways of being the change we wish to see in the world. ❤ Please keep reading to learn more.
~~~~

When times of terror greatly affect us and cause us to fear for our protection, anxiety begins to take root within us. It’s the natural reaction; it is frightening to know what people are capable of, and how we might one day be personally affected by this hatred and evil. The thought of our own safety, as well as those that we love, being put at risk is really a frightening thought.

But what I’ve realized while reading the news lately, and by seeing how everyone is reacting to all of what has been going on this past week, it has really affected me emotionally. I’ve seen how everyone is coming together, reaching out to one another, and spreading positivity and love. We’re grasping hands and making stronger bonds instead of using our power to hurt others. This has caused many of us to remember what we really should be doing: caring for one another.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Whenever there is something bad going on that we cannot control, whether we’re personally witnessing it or we read articles online, we are often struck by the realization that we must do something – but then it is heartbreaking when we realize that we can’t.

However, I have just recently realized that we are capable of doing more than we ever thought possible.

“Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” — Howard Zinn

No, we can’t bring comfort to everyone in pain, nor can we assist every person in need … but we can give a smile to every individual we meet, reach out to others who need our love, exhibit kindness to our friends and family, read that new blogger’s blog posts … by doing things that are so small, we can change the lives of everyone around us!

Spread kindness like wildfire. Be conscious of others’ feelings. Go out of your way to love people. Aim to make everyone that you meet happier than when they first met you. Be a light in the darkness! ❤

Do for one what you wish you could do for millions.

We cannot let the terror that is going on affect or weaken us. We are strong, bright, intelligent people. The negativity around us is definitely heartbreaking sometimes, but by doing what we’re capable of doing – which is sooo much! – we can – and will – change the world.

Changing the world always needs volunteers.

~~~~
If you would like, it would bless me if you would reblog this post, for the sake of getting this message out. We need to spread the positivity, pray for and take care of each other, and strengthen the bonds that we have with all of our friends and every member of our families. Love always wins over hate ❤
I hope that this post has inspired you. How about you?
What can YOU do to change the world?
Blogging Challenge – Day 28: What Makes Me Happy
Blogging Challenge – Day 28: What Makes Me Happy
Hi guys! I hope that your week has gotten off to a great start. ❤
Day 27 is about what makes me happy! I love thinking about and writing down the things in life that bring me joy because it’s honestly a great reminder to be joyful! It’s the little things that really get to me and make me smile, which is the reason why it’s easy for me to be so happy. 🙂 Check out my list below.
I hope you enjoy!
You can read about what this challenge is here. And make sure to check out Cheila’s and Angela’s posts for today, too – we’re all doing the challenge together!
What Makes Me Happy
I love watching sunlight filter through the leaves as the wind carries itself through the trees. I love the sound of laughter, and of knowing that the joy someone else feels is because of something silly I did or said. I love buying a new notebook and filling it with the thoughts and ponderings that are always on my heart. I love the calm just after it finishes raining as I watch the water droplets cascade down thin branches.
I love listening to music and tapping along to the beat. I love learning new things, especially about history, foreign language, and technology. I love the process of writing a story, and the joy one feels upon final completion. I love taking photos of the people that I love and capturing the happiness in their smiles, and in their eyes.
I love meeting new people and having meaningful conversations. I love falling for a new book, and dreading its end for how much it means to me. I love getting mail, for it always blesses me to hear from friends. I love crawling into bed at the end of a long day and being able to relax.
I love browsing Pinterest and finding endless inspiration there. I love watching YouTube and getting to experience others’ passions. And I love blogging – writing posts, responding to comments, and reading others’ blogs. It adds sooo much happiness to my life. ❤
Thanks for reading, everyone! How about you?
What makes YOU happy?
Spotlight Saturday – Grace from My Blessing by Grace
Spotlight Saturday – Grace from My Blessing by Grace
Hi guys, and happy Saturday! I hope you’ve been having an awesome weekend so far. ❤ And I hope that you like this week’s Spotlight Saturday!
My words are in italics, and hers are in bold.
Enjoy! 🙂 ❤
Interview #6
Hello everyone! Welcome to this week’s Spotlight Saturday. Today, I’d like to introduce to all of you a new blogging friend of mine. She writes beautiful, inspiring blog posts about her walk with the Lord, recipes she’d like to try, and other topics she’s interested in, and is very sweet and kind! Please welcome Grace from My Blessing by Grace!
Hey Guys! I’m really excited to participating in Maggie’s ‘Spotlight Saturday’ series. I can’t wait to share a bit more about myself and to get to know all of you a little more!
And I can’t wait to learn some more about you! First, tell us about yourself. For example, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I actually have quite a few hobbies/interests. My favourites are definitely baking and listening to music! I also enjoy culling and cleaning stuff as it makes me feel very productive. Blogging has also become a major hobby of mine for sure! I’m finding it really fun.
Oh those all sound great! I definitely think that blogging is fun, too. Next, can you tell us about your blog? Why did you start it, and what do you enjoy writing about?
On my blog I write about things I’m interested in which is mainly food, faith and beauty. I write about many other things though so I’d consider my blog a lifestyle blog. I started blogging because I thought it would be a really fun way to share things happening in my life, kind of like a journal. I also wanted my blog to be a place where I can give advice as if I was talking to my younger sister. I really enjoy blogging because it has been a great way to connect with others like myself.
I love all of those topics! Lifestyle blogs are great because they have such a huge variety of posts for their readers; it’s fantastic. So, I saw that you started your blog in February, so I don’t know how many favorites you have yet haha, but can you name a few of your favorite posts that you’ve written so far for us? What are those posts about?
Thank you very much Maggie! I love all of my posts but my favourites are definitely Being Still, Cowboy Cookies and Collective Beauty Haul and Review. Being Still is my favourite Faith based posts I’ve written. I was inspired to write this post after reflecting on last year and realising how I wasn’t relying on the Lord enough. Cowboy Cookies was a recipe that I made which has to be the yummiest treat I’ve had all year! For the last post I mentioned ‘Collective Beauty Haul and Review’ I think the title is pretty self explanatory.
Ah, those all sound like fantastic posts! I’ll definitely go read them for myself. Now I’d like to know, what are a few of the reasons that you enjoy blogging on WordPress? Is it for writing your own posts, supporting other bloggers, or a combination of both?
Personally I haven’t had any experience with any other blogging sites but from looking at other blogs I love the way WordPress allows you to set your blog out the best. A lot of people seem to end up moving their blog to WordPress to make it seem more professional so I’m glad I just started here so I hopefully won’t be moving my blog. I also love WordPress because I can write posts in advance and schedule them. It’s also been really cool to interact with other bloggers and meet many like minded people.
Yes! The WordPress community is amazing. I have used other blogging sites over the years, and this one is the best by far. 🙂 To finish up this interview, what are two reasons why you’d love it if my readers came by your blog today?
I’d love for your readers to come by my blog so I can encourage and inspire them as well as get to know many more awesome people!
That’s awesome! Thanks so much for letting me interview you, Grace – I enjoyed it! xx
Thank you so much for interviewing me. It’s been really fun getting to share a bit more about myself whilst getting to know you know a little more! Many Blessings, Grace. Xxx
~~~~

Thank you all so much for reading! It would make both of us very happy if your could visit her blog for yourself. She blogs about her faith, love for baking, and anything else that’s on her heart! ❤ She would love to talk to you in the comments section of her posts!

I hope that you have a great day/afternoon/night, everybody!

Blogging Challenge – Day 27: A Challenge That I Overcame

Blogging Challenge – Day 27: A Challenge That I Overcame

Hi everyone! 🙂 Happy Saturday to all of you. ❤

You should have seen me last night, tapping away on my mom’s laptop as quickly as I could; I hadn’t gotten the posts for today ready yet. I don’t usually work on posts the morning they’re to be posted, except to proofread and tweak things here and there, so I was freaking out a little bit! If you couldn’t already tell, I love being prepared, and having things ready – when it comes to blogging, especially. Thankfully, I got everything done in time and quickly went to bed! Whew!

Anyway, today’s prompt is to be about a challenge that I overcame. Let’s jump right in. xx

You can read about what this challenge is here. And make sure to check out Cheila’s and Angela’s posts for today, too – we’re all doing the challenge together!

A Challenge That I Overcame

I have one very good reason for changing up this prompt, haha: adolescence. I am seventeen years old, and have not yet faced many challenges to overcome – thus, I cannot speak from experience on this matter. However, in an attempt to stick to the THEME of this prompt, I’d like to share with you five different Bible verses that have helped me through hard times and difficult circumstances, because the Lord’s love, as well as the care of my family, are what get me through the adversities in my life. ❤

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV {when I was younger and afraid to go to sleep at night, this verse helped me through so much. ❤ }

“…for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” ~ Hebrews 13:5 AMPC {whenever I doubt that the Lord cares for me … this verse reminds me of His truth.}

“So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.” ~ Romans 8:26 AMPC {when I’m struggling to pray, like I often do, this verse reminds me that I’m not alone in my praying.}

“I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.” ~ Psalm 3:5 NIV {this one also has to do with trouble sleeping 🙂 }

“But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.” ~ Proverbs 1:33 KJV {this one has kept me peaceful in times of fright. ❤ }

Thanks for reading! How about you?

What gets YOU through the tough times?
